Keanu Reeves and the Big Bad Whoa - Animated!
I made an animated version of my Keanu book.
I have been reluctant to digitise it in any form (ironic since it was illustrated digitally) because I think it takes something away from the real life experience of having a tangible book in your hands. This is why there will never be a kindle version.
Sales be dammed.
That being said, for the past 2 years my marketing has been dog shit. It’s still not great, but doing an animated version with moving drawings and sound does add something to the experience. That’s how I justify producing this.
On top of that it has resulted in a few sales. That’s more to do with the version I put on Instagram, a 9:16 vertical version.
Last time I checked it had about 8k views, whereas the one below has had 25 (as of writing). Algorithms.
The idea of someone reading this as a bedtime story to their child on an iPad or kindle makes me sad.
And people do read it to their children. Whilst the primary audience is adults, I do have it in the back of my mind that it should be suitable for children as well. It works on two levels.
Speaking of levels, there are some details that are easier to see in the video than in print, such as the reflection of the city in the battery on The Matrix page (you’ll know it when you see it). I like to add little details like that.
To that end, the music that I use on each ‘page’ of the video comes from not only the soundtrack of the film being portrayed but the scene it appears in as well (for the most part). I thought people who have read the book or hardcore film/Keanu fans would appreciate that.
And I hope you appreciate the video.
Enjoy!
